KUCHING, Jan 25: The number of fire cases in Sarawak increased to 2,090 cases in 2023 compared to only 1,648 in 2022.
According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS), based on an infographic shared by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) today, the highest number of fire cases reported was in Miri with 220 cases.
Apart from that, the number of rescue cases also jumped from 7,552 cases in 2022 to 8,162 cases in 2023.
Sarawak Bomba director Datu Khirudin Drahman when contacted by TVS said the high number of fire cases reported by Bomba Miri is because the department oversees a vast area in the district.
Apart from that, he said, there are many forest and plantation fires which also occurred due to development activity.
He added that the statistics also recorded nine deaths due to fire.
For emergency calls, Bomba Batu Lintang and Bomba Petra Jaya received the most number of cases at 687 and 660 calls respectively. — DayakDaily
