KUCHING, April 16: An electrical and electronic waste (e-waste) collection campaign will be launched at the MBKS community hall next Friday and Saturday (April 22-23).
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who will be officiating the campaign, was happy to announce it to his viewers during today’s ShallWeeTalk Facebook live streaming session.
The campaign is co-organised by MBKS, the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) and the Department of Environment (DOE) in conjunction with 2022 Earth Day on April 22.
Wee said the public is welcome to send any unwanted electrical and electronic appliances to be exchanged with cash between 8am to 5pm.
“If you have any refrigerators, mobile phones, printers, fans, and so on that cannot be repaired anymore, but you don’t know how to dispose of them, bring them to the campaign to be recycled.
“A laptop can be exchanged for RM8, a CPU for RM5, and a washing machine for RM10,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wee said MBKS has managed to prevent the use of nearly 1.3 million plastic straws to date.
He expressed hope that the target of precisely 1.3 million plastic straws could be achieved by Earth Day. — DayakDaily
