KUCHING, July 14: A 28-year-old female security guard, Suhanum Sutimin, was commended for her speedy and courageous response in saving a woman’s life.
Suhanum, who is posted at Wisma Saberkas Management Corporation, said she was doing her job and was glad that she managed to save the woman, a mother of two.
“I managed to calm her down before handing her over to the police for further action,” she told reporters when met after an appreciation ceremony held for her at the Lower Ground Floor Stage in Wisma Saberkas today.
Relating her experience, Suhanum revealed that her colleague informed her of the incident, and she rushed to the spot.
“I told the woman to calm down, and I pulled her to safety without a second thought.
“She was angry, shouted at me, and even bit me. But I held on to her and calmed her down, and I am glad I have done my job,” she said.
Her husband, Johnie Gitep, said he is proud of his wife despite being a security guard for a few months.
“The incident still blows our minds; it is a good deed on my wife, and I am proud of her. It is (due to) faith that the woman she saved is alive, and this incident will forever be in our memory,” he said,
The security supervisor Rosmah Japar commended Suhanum for her courage and bravery.
“Not every day are we faced with such an incident, and Suhanum deserves the recognition,” she said.
