MIRI, July 4: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau is optimistic that the Northern Sarawak Expedition 2019 (NSE) can help promote Gunung Mulu National Park as an attractive tourist destination.

“Mulu is the gold mine of Sarawak. I believed the 4th edition of NSE will be able to help boost up tourist arrivals to the area,” he said before flagging off the convoy at Jalan Padang here this morning.

He also commended the event organiser, Miri Oil Town 4X4 Adventure Club, for choosing the routes (Miri-Marudi-Mulu) for the expedition.

“It is one of the best routes to Mulu. The Sarawak government is trying to promote this route,” he told those present.

The convoy will travel 700km over four days, starting from Miri. They would be making pit-stops at Marudi before proceeding to Mulu.

Sixty-eight four-wheel-drive (4×4) vehicles and 158 participants are taking part in the expedition. The participants are from Miri, Brunei, Sabah, Bintulu, Sibu and Kuching.

Dennis also said besides promoting tourism, the expedition would also help both local 4X4 enthusiasts and international off-roaders to exchange ideas with one another for the common passion.

“Such activity will definitely enhance their interaction among one another, besides promoting safe driving discipline,” he said.

Also present at the flag-off were Miri Oil Town 4X4 Adventure Club chairman Sufi Hamdan, his deputy, Desmond Dawat Kalasi, and event manager Daud Wan Jalong. — DayakDaily
