Nominations open for 2024 Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards

KUCHING, July 6: Nominations are now open for the Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EOYS) 2024, which honour and acknowledge exceptional entrepreneurial talent and leadership, especially in driving Sarawak forward.

First launched in 2004, this prestigious annual award is organised by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (Mintred) in collaboration with Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and EY.

Nominations for EOYS can be submitted to SCCI through business associations or individuals, by no later than Aug 30, 2024.

According to a media release, the EOYS aims to recognise the best in business in Sarawak, such as the prime movers that drive Sarawak towards achieving its aspiration of a developed region by 2030.

It also recognises the success of up-and-coming entrepreneurs, who through their ingenuity, ideas, resourcefulness, commitment and hard work, have built their businesses which contributed to the growth of Sarawak’s economy and encouragef the growth of small and medium scale industries.

To date, close to 80 entrepreneurs from across Sarawak have received this recognition.

The categories for this year’s awards include Emerging Entreprenuer for business between three to five years old or entrepreneur aged 35 or under, Master Entreprenuer for maintaining management excellence over a sustained period and business founded more than five years ago, and Excellent Entrepreneur (Beyond Sarawak) for running a success business in Malaysia or overseas.

Emphasis will primarily be on the individual’s attributes over the company’s, covering outstanding leadership, vision, dedication and intelligent risk taking; company milestones considering industry obstacles and each entrepreneur’s ability to overcome adversity; corporate culture, values and incentives; financial performance and growth record; environmental, social and governance initiatives, reputation and community contributions that demonstrate good corporate citizenship; resilience in adapting to the business disruptions; and embracing modern technology to enhance efficiency and transformation.

The EOYS provides opportunities for networking and accessing valuable media coverage, raising personal and company profile.

For instance, the EOYS Adjudicating Committee has nominated recipients of the EOYS Awards to represent Sarawak at the Malaysia EY Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) Awards. The nominated representative gains access to events to help their company achieve its potential and the opportunity to join a group of illustrious alumni.
