Premier: Three international banking institutions to return to Sarawak

KUCHING, Nov 25: Three international banking institution are set to make their return to Sarawak, resuming operations in the State due to its potential.

Without naming the institutions, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the three banks used to have offices in the state previously, but when the timber industry crashed, business became inviable for them.


“That is the confidence of the financial institutions in our economy and in our economic policies and in our efforts to add value to our resources where you can’t find in other places,” said Abang Johari in his speech during the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) platinum jubilee dinner held at local hotel, here today.

Abang Johari also urged SCCI members to take the opportunity to explore the possibilities.

During the ceremony, Abang Johari also presented the Master Entrepreneur and Outstanding Entrepreneurship awards to six recipients.

Under the Master category, the recipients are Mejar (K) Dato Ling Kiong Hua, Lesley Luyoh Akah (representing Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak), Dennic Chin Ching Chung (representing Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Dato Bobby Ting Sie Ching (representing Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association), and Dato Chris Chung Soon Nam (representing SCCI), while Dato Sri Dr Tay Chin Kin was presented with Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award 2022.

Also present were Deputy Premier Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
