No tsunami threat to M’sia following 7.0 magnitude earthquake in South Sumatra, Indonesia at 4am

KUCHING, April 25: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has reported no tsunami threat to Malaysia following the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in South Sumatra, Indonesia at 4am today.

MetMalaysia director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said the epicentre of the earthquake was located 0.9° South and 98.3° East, 85km Northwest from Siberut, Indonesia, with a depth of 49km.

“Tremors were felt in the West Coast states of Peninsular Malaysia. There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia,” he said in a statement today. — DayakDaily
