KUCHING, Nov 18: There is no time limit to exchange yellow liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) red LPG cylinders.

Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunications (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said this in response to Pending assemblywoman Violet Yongā€™s concern concerning the isolated cases faced by the consumers on the LPG exchange.

According to Julaihi, the process of converting yellow subsidised LPG cylinders to PETROS subsidised LPG cylinders on a one-to-one basis without additional charges is still ongoing.

ā€œAs of October 2024, PETROSNiaga has exchanged 690,000 units of yellow LPG cylinders to PETROS LPG cylinders.

ā€œCurrently, there are approximately 1.8 million PETROS subsidised LPG cylinders available in the market throughout Sarawak,ā€ said Julaihi during his winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.

At the initial stage, PETROSNiaga incurred a cost of RM50 million to provide 350,000 PETROS LPG cylinders in the new red colour.

So far, the cost has increased to RM100 million to increase the number of cylinders to 700,000 to ensure a smooth exchange of the one-to-one cylinder conversion process for free throughout Sarawak.

It is estimated that more than 95 per cent of the yellow LPG cylinders have been converted to PETROS red LPG cylinders.

Any distributor and sub-distributor who refuses to accept LPG cylinder exchange will be dealt with strictly.

Currently, there are 67 distributors and more than 300 sub-distributors throughout Sarawak. ā€” DayakDaily
