KUCHING, Sept 6: Borneo Samariang Garden Phase 5 Buyers Action Committee will no longer tolerate any excuses for further delays after September 2023 as they urge the developer of the troubled housing project, Sentoria Borneo Land Sdn Bhd, to immediately satisfy all necessary conditions for the granting of occupation permit (OP) by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU).
Voicing their concerns regarding the developer’s ability to fulfill the promise made to hand over all 154 housing units to the homeowners in September, committee chairman Mohd Zulfika Abdolkader has once again appealed to the Sarawak government to intervene.
“This housing project has been issued with Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) since June 2023, but the OP application has not been submitted due to the developer’s failure in meeting DBKU’s requirements.
“As such, we urged the developer to take their responsibilities seriously as outlined in the Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA),” he said in a statement today.
Cautioning the developer against a careless attitude in completing the housing project which is now in the final stage, Mohd Zulfika emphasised that any delays beyond September 2023 would be met with strong objections from the house buyers.
Delays in handing over the housing project, he stressed, would lead to numerous problems for the buyers, who are already burdened with high monthly installment payments ranging between RM800 and RM1,800, in addition to temporary house rentals.
“The buyers aged between 26 and 45, and predominantly first-time home buyers, are now struggling to cope with paying monthly installments along with high house rental rates, especially in the areas around Kuching and Samarahan which now almost reach RM2,500 per month.
“Coupled with the increasing cost of living now, there are a number of buyers who are facing bankruptcy action because they are no longer able to pay this monthly commitment,” he pointed out.
Mohd Zulfika highlighted that most house buyers are civil servants and employees of government-related agencies (GLCs) from low-income (B40) and middle-income (M40) groups, were supposed to receive the units they purchased in 2019 until 2020, but are still waiting today. ā DayakDaily
