KUCHING, May 22: The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sarawak has launched the Saujana-Kampung Benuk bus route, the sixth route under the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Kuching initiative.
According to its press statement, this new route is a key addition aimed at enhancing connectivity for residents from Kota Padawan, Bung Barau, and Kampung Benuk to downtown Kuching.
The new route also overlaps with the existing Saujana-Bau route at several key stops including Timberland Medical Centre, Boulevard Shopping Mall, Farley 6th Mile, and 7th Mile Bazaar.
“This launch is part of our broader mission to build a more accessible, sustainable, and efficient public transport system for greater Kuching. Public transport is not only a viable alternative but also a smarter, more environmentally-friendly choice that reduces traffic congestion and lowers household transportation costs,” CVLB chairman Michael Kong said.
To better accommodate commuter needs, CVLB has identified weekday peak hours; from 6.30am to 8.30am and 4.30pm to 7.30pm, and will increase bus frequency during these periods to every 30 minutes, ensuring a timely and reliable alternative to private vehicles.
The buses for the Saujana-Kg Benuk route are scheduled to operate as follows:
• Weekdays:
○ First bus from Kg Benuk: 5.30am
○ First bus from Saujana: 6.30am
○ Last bus: 7.30pm
• Weekends:
○ Service runs from 6.30am to 8.30pm
“We strongly urge the public, particularly those living in the areas served by this new route, to take advantage of this facility.
“Your support and usage of the SBST Kuching services will ensure its long-term sustainability and growth, as we continue working towards an integrated, people-focused public transport ecosystem,” Kong added. – DayakDaily
