KUCHING, May 8: The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sarawak has officially launched BAS.MY’s fifth bus route from Saujana to Bako, marking a significant step in the federal government’s Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Kuching project.

CVLB Sarawak chairman Michael Kong emphasised that the introduction of this route is a testament to their ongoing commitment to enhancing public transportation services across Kuching.

The new Saujana-Bako route will connect the Saujana Bus Station to Bako Terminal, passing through key landmarks such as the Waterfront, SJK Chung Hua No. 3, Chung Hua Middle School No. 1, Kolej Komuniti Santubong, Public Bank Padungan, Demak Laut Industrial Park, and SMK Bako.

The service will cater to both daily commuters and weekend travellers. On weekdays, the first bus will depart from Bako Terminal at 5.30am, with buses from Saujana Bus Station beginning at 6.30am.

The last buses in both directions will leave at 7.30pm. To accommodate peak-hour demand, the frequency will increase to one bus every 30 minutes between 6.30am and 8.30am, and 4.30pm and 7.30pm. Weekend services will run from 6.30am to 8.3 pm in both directions.

In the launch ceremony, Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong joined the event and also provided feedback, including a call for more reliable public transport in areas like Bintawa.

Kong acknowledged the importance of public input, stating that CVLB Sarawak takes feedback seriously and will monitor ridership trends closely.

“Over the past couples of weeks, we have been launching our SBST Kuching routes in stages. Along the way, many members of the public have given their input on where they would like our bus to operate as well.

“The collected data will help identify areas with unmet demand, allowing for route adjustments and refinements to ensure more efficient service,” he said in a statement today.

Through this data-driven approach, Kong expressed CVLB Sarawak’s commitment to provide more comprehensive and sustainable public transportation, reducing traffic congestion, and improving the overall quality of life for Kuching residents.

The Saujana-Bako route is the latest in a series of new routes under the SBST Kuching project, with CVLB Sarawak continuing to expand and improve public transport for a more connected and accessible city. — DayakDaily
