MIRI, Feb 26: The Miri Transport Company (MTC) has announced the launch of a new rural stage bus service, set to commence operations on Saturday (March 8), following approval from the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sarawak.
The initiative aims to improve public transport accessibility for rural communities in Bekenu, Batu Niah, Bakong, Lapok, and Long Lama, providing safe, reliable, and affordable transportation options for residents.
As part of the official launch preparations, representatives from MTC paid a courtesy visit to Bekenu Assemblywoman Datuk Rosey Yunus today to introduce the service and discuss its benefits for local communities.
Rosey welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to improve mobility for rural residents and boost tourism activities in the region.
“I wholeheartedly welcome this initiative as it will provide rural communities with much-needed access to Miri city,” she said.
Meanwhile, MTC reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing rural transport links and ensuring the service remains accessible to all.
“This stage bus service will facilitate travel for work, education, healthcare, and daily necessities,” said MTC chairman Lee Khoi Yun.
The rural bus routes will operate on a fixed schedule to ensure smoother and more efficient travel for passengers.
MTC encourages local residents to utilise the service and provide feedback to help improve operational efficiency. – DayakDaily
