DEBAK, July 10: Debak is set to have a new RM8.8 million administrative building as construction gets underway, with the project expected to be completed by August next year to enhance government services for the local community.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Women, Children and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Dr Mohammad Razi Sitam said the new building reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to providing quality administrative infrastructure that could meet current and future needs.

He said efforts to realise the project began in 2019 but were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic before it was eventually approved with an increased cost ceiling from RM5 million to RM8.8 million.

“The new building will provide more complete, comfortable and conducive administrative facilities, which will improve the efficiency of service delivery to the people,” he said during the launching ceremony of the project as reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today.

Mohammad Razi, who is also Saribas assemblyman, said the project will include the construction of government quarters, with emphasis placed on quality construction to ensure the facilities can meet long-term administrative needs.

Meanwhile, Betong MP Dato Dr Richard Rapu said the new complex was necessary as the existing 1970s-built office was no longer adequate for today’s administrative requirements.

He expressed his appreciation to the Sarawak Premier for approving the project, while hoping the construction would be completed as scheduled within 20 months.

The project is expected to strengthen the administrative functions of Debak Sub-District and improve government service delivery in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

Also present were Betong resident Datu Richard Michael Abunawas, Betong District officer Laga Kueh and Betong Divisional Public Works Department (JKR) Engineer Jason Ng Boon Tuan. — DayakDaily
