SELANGAU, July 10: Sarawak has completed the rebuilding of 85 critically dilapidated schools under the RM1 billion dilapidated school redevelopment programme, marking a major step towards improving school infrastructure and strengthening education development across the State.
Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, said the achievement reflected the strong cooperation between the federal and Sarawak governments in delivering the projects efficiently.
“Every completed project not only replaced ageing school buildings but also created better learning environments for students, especially those in rural areas.
“However, educational transformation cannot stop at providing physical buildings alone. Modern infrastructure is merely an empty premise if it is not supported by impactful curriculum and academic content,” he said when officiating at the ceremony to mark the Completion of the RM1 Billion Dilapidated School Redevelopment Projects in Sarawak at SK Dato Penghulu Imban here today.
According to a TVS news report, the projects celebrated today involved five schools in the Selangau District, namely SK Dato Penghulu Imban, SK Batu 36, SK Dijih, SK Sungai Sepiring and SK Sangan Iban.
The redevelopment of SK Dato Penghulu Imban cost RM8.4 million, which includes a new academic block with 12 classrooms, an administration block, four units of teachers’ quarters, and toilet facilities for students and teachers.
The project commenced on Oct 27, 2021, was completed on Aug 31, 2023, and received its Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) on Sept 25, 2023.
Sagah said the new facilities symbolised the government’s commitment to ensuring students in rural areas enjoy education facilities comparable to those in urban schools.
He said the Sarawak government would continue to prioritise school infrastructure to ensure a conducive learning environment. — DayakDaily
