KUCHING, Aug 4: The new RM6.39 million Limbang Museum, formerly the district officers’ quarters, was also the birthplace of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
According to Abang Johari, the committee chose the museum site, which also happens to be his birthplace.
“This museum is one of the tourist attractions (in Limbang), and it is true that people will see the wealth of a place that includes culture, lifestyle, and attractions all in one location.
“Limbang has its own wealth in terms of culture, language, way of life, and the land that it possesses.
“That is why we want to collect all of these artifacts and display them in a building that depicts the way of life in each area, including Limbang,” he said today before officiating at the Limbang Museum in Limbang.
Meanwhile, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated in his speech that the Limbang Museum will have two galleries, one of which will be a replica of government officials’ quarters from the past, and the other will display information about Limbang’s development.
Abdul Karim noted that the museum’s collection is not yet fully installed because the project was only recently completed.
“We will have to wait a little longer because the Sarawak Museum Department will add more collections to the museum to complete it.
“What we can see today is the completed building, but the Limbang Museum’s collection will be completed after the inauguration,” he said. — DayakDaily
