He added that the item will be distributed in stages when the plan materialises.

Separately, Dr Annuar added tat he has approved an allocation of RM57,000 to help students master reading and arithmetic in his area.

According to him, almost a thousand Year 2 and 3 students from nine schools in his area are having problems catching up with their studies following the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I have discussed with the nine headmasters of the school on ways to help the students improve their mastery in reading and arithmetic to the appropriate level,” he said.

A total of 707 pupils and students from primary and secondary schools in the constituency received the aid at a ceremony organised by Yayasan Sarawak in collaboration with the Nangka DUN Service Center, Sibu Resident Office, Sibu District Office and Sarawak State Education Department.

Dr Annuar said that the aid he approved was to help the students in question get tuition and assist teachers buy teaching equipment such as books, training and printouts.

“If the problem of these students is not dealt with immediately they will continue to fall behind. This is because they are very weak in all subjects due to not being able to master reading and arithmetic.

“Therefore, I approved the allocation for that purpose for which I will issue the check today,” he said. ā€” DayakDaily
