KAPIT, Feb 24: The ongoing construction of a new longhouse for Rumah Jacob in Nanga Leon, Sungai Menuan here, will provide better comfort for ten families, says Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Additionally, he said the new longhouse will be able to accommodate three new families.

“I am honored to have been invited to officiate the ‘mangkung tiang’ ceremony which is part of the Iban custom when a new longhouse is to be built.

“A good irrigation system and water pump are also needed to help the residents of Rumah Jacob get a supply of clean water for daily use, so with that, I, along with the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) and Bukit Goram assemblyman Datuk Jefferson Jamit, have agreed to provide an additional allocation of RM60,000 for that purpose as well as complete the facilities needed in this new longhouse later for the comfort of the residents,” he said in a statement today.

Nanta, who is also Federal Minister of Works, had also announced RM500 assistance each to over 100 families from over 12 longhouses in Kapit. — DayakDaily
