SIBU, July 24: A new party to represent youth in the State aims to be formed in time for the 15th General Election (GE15).

According to spokesperson Jocky Jim Ungka today, they were in the process of getting the party registered with the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

However, the former Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (Sedar) Supreme Council member declined to reveal the name of the party.

“We are trying to set up a new party that focuses on the young generation. However, we will not marginalise the adults,” he said.

Jocky said, if the party is successfully registered, individuals from every age group will be given the opportunity to join it.

He emphasised Sarawak needs to have a new party which represents the voice of young people in the upcoming general election

“In accordance with the existence of Undi18 in the upcoming election, the State needs to have a new party to represent the voice of the youth,” he said, adding existing parties in the State do not fight for the youth.

Jocky said that in Peninsular Malaysia there is Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) led by Muar MP who is also its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

He opined that with political patterns now changing, a new agenda needs to be brought in to improve the socio-economic status of the people, especially the young people.

“Not only do we encourage young people to improve themselves via educational or sports opportunities. In fact, we also need to give opportunities to young people in managing affairs and leading the State of Sarawak.

“With a political platform for young people, the political pattern in the State of Sarawak will be fresher and young people will have a platform for them to voice their views, opinions and give ideas on matters related to the development of the State of Sarawak,” he added. — DayakDaily
