New microcredit scheme open to all Sarawakians

KUCHING, Nov 4: The Sarawak government will introduce a new initiative called Sarawak Micro Credit Scheme which will provide financial assistance to entrepreneurs for businesses expansion and diversification.

Announcing this during his Sarawak Budget 2020 speech today, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the programme is open to all Sarawakians, both Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera, residing in and operating businesses in the state.

“We are also targeting the B40 group as well as micro- or small (-time) entrepreneurs who have started their business operations for at least six months. For this initiative, a sum of RM30 million will be allocated in this Budget,” he said.


He gave assurance that the state government will continue to aggressively promote domestic investment and encourage entrepreneurship amongst Sarawakians.

Abang Johari added that a sum of RM25 million will be set aside for various projects such as the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Development Programme, Small and Medium Industry Loan Scheme (Skim Pinjaman Industri Kecil dan Sederhana), Anjung Usahawan, and Program Peningkatan Usahawan Bumiputera (PUTERA). — DayakDaily
