KUCHING, June 5: The Magaran Besar area has been chosen as the location for a new dam to improve the gravity pipe system in Kampung Tebaro and Jampari.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news report, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang stated that the project aims to replace the existing dam, which is dilapidated and leaking, so that the water reservoir can be maintained.

He explained that the scope of work includes the construction of a shared dam, a covered and fenced filter tank unit for each village, two storage tank units with 2,000-litre capacity for each village, fire hydrants, and house-to-house pipes.

“For Kampung Tebaro, RM550,000 will be used to install 5.5 kilometres of 4-inch HDPE pipes and 3 kilometres of 3-inch pipes. This is intended to benefit about 85 houses in the village.

“While Kampung Jampari will need RM320,000 to install 4-inch HDPE pipes measuring 3 kilometres and 3-inch pipes measuring 1 kilometre which will benefit about 55 houses,” he was quoted as saying.

Billy made the remarks when inspecting the project site with members of the implementing agency and the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) in Lundu on Monday (June 3).

Also present during the inspection were political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Niponi Undek; officer-in-charge of the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Lundu, Hastomo Tommy; and the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) of Kampung Tebaro and Kampung Jampari. — DayakDaily
