KUCHING, Nov 18: The new Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din has been tasked to get the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) ready for the Sarawak State Election which is due 2021.
The announcement was made by Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department director Datuk Zamri Yahya today.
Zamri made the statement at a press conference after witnessing the handing over of duty from outgoing Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Azman Yusof to Ramli, whose previous post was Bukit Aman Inspector General of Police Secretariat chief (Research and Development).
Apart from preparations for the Sarawak State Election, Zamri said the police will also discuss with the Sarawak government on the security measures to put in place along the borders in view of the anticipated move of Indonesian capital from Jakarta to Kalimantan.
One of such preparations, he said, is to look into the possibility of increasing its personnel along the Sarawak-Indonesia borders.
“The shift of Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta to Kalimantan will effect Sarawak directly and indirectly. Therefore we will discuss with the State government on how we can prepare, especially in terms of safety and movement along the State’s border.
“This includes (monitoring the movement of) people who enter and exit the border of both countries as we are expecting a hike of entries into our side. Smuggling is also one of our concerns which we must counter,” said Zamri. — DayakDaily
