SIBU, Nov 8: Retirement does not mean the end, but rather a chance for Royal Malaysian Navy veterans to pass down their experience, leadership, and discipline to younger generations.
Dudong incumbent Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said that the veterans’ stories of service and sacrifice deserve to be documented and shared so that their patriotism and dedication to the nation will continue to be recognised and appreciated.
“The spirit of solidarity was also reflected in the presence of Royal Malaysian Navy veterans, representatives from the Royal Malaysian Air Force, the police, and various other parties, demonstrating our willingness to unite and serve the nation.
“I hope the veterans’ associations will continue working as a united team in championing the welfare of veterans and their families,” he said in a Facebook post on his attendance at the Malam Warisan Samudera Gala Amal Veteran organised by the Royal Malaysian Navy Veterans Association (PVTLDM) at a hotel here on Saturday (Nov 7),
He added that unity and harmony must continue to be preserved within society so that its leaders can focus on developing the economy, advancing the nation, and addressing the people’s concerns.
At the same time, PVTLDM president, Commander Khairil Hariss Khairuddin, emphasised that Navy veterans remained valuable national assets who could continue contributing to development through their experience, skills, and expertise.
He said approximately 60 per cent of PVTLDM’s nearly 12,000 registered members nationwide were aged between 30 and 59, representing a productive pool of highly skilled workers.
“We do not merely want history to be remembered; we want this heritage to remain alive, benefit society, and create value for the nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, at a separate function, Tiong, who is also the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, called on parents, schools, the community, and the police to play their parts in addressing issues such as fighting, violence, and gangsterism among youths, especially in Dudong.

Commenting on the Platinum Jubilee and 70 years of service celebration of SK Sungai Salim, he lauded the school’s seven-decade journey as a reflection of the dedication and sacrifices of teachers, parents, pupils, and the wider community.
“A school is not merely a place to acquire knowledge, but also an environment where children develop discipline, values and the foundations for their future.
“I would also like to urge parents to continue working closely with teachers and the school in guiding their children. Whenever problems arise, we should sit down together, discuss them and find solutions collectively.
“The safety and education of our children require the care, attention, and responsibility of all of us,” he said. — DayakDaily
