SADONG JAYA, Mar 6: Strong confidence in Covid-19 vaccine within communities leading to more people getting vaccinated will lead to fewer illnesses, asserts Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Sri Nancy Shukri.

Nancy, who is also the MP for Batang Sadong took the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine injection at Sadong Jaya health clinic this morning.

Accompanying her was Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo who also took the jab.

Advising the public not to doubt or worry about the vaccine, Nancy assured that the Malaysian government has ensured it is safe and through various studies as has been done by foreign countries.

“Our government will not simply decide on any vaccine because this requires in-depth studies, test and benchmark from other countries. Large clinical trials and numerous data had proven the vaccine to be safe and effective against the virus. On top of that, we will always refer to proper and relevant authorities to ensure that the vaccine is safe.

“Furthermore, vaccination is not a new thing. We have been receiving them since we are babies. Even when you travel to certain countries, you are required to get certain vaccination before you are allowed to enter.

25 personnel from Asajaya district Civil Defence Force (APM) led by Amirul Hakim Abdul Talib had their Covid-19 vaccination at Asajaya health clinic.

“Yes, taking Covid-19 vaccine may cause temporary mild side effects such as fever, muscle pain, headache, chills or fatigue, but wasn’t that the same warning our medical personnel will tell us when you take other types of vaccines before this?” Nancy said when met.

As to why did she chose to take the vaccine at Sadong Jaya health clinic, she asserted that this is to give confidence to the people under her constituency.

Earlier, she witnessed the handover ceremony of the newly completed Sadong Jaya Community Center (PDK) worth RM400,000 under the Sarawak government’s Rural Transformation Project (RTP).

She also visited the new Tahfiz Darul Iman centre which was completed in August last year, followed by handing over of the remaining 448 water tanks to 10 villages in Sadong Jaya.

Meanwhile, medical and enforcement frontliners from Royal Malaysian Police, Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force in Asajara district also took part in the vaccination program.

Family medical specialist Dr Sarah Chew Ching Jern, who is also supervising the Covid-19 vaccination for Asajaya health clinic disclosed that they had registered about 150 recipients.

“Half of them are medical frontliners while the remaining half consists of enforcement personnel and some teachers as well. We started the vaccination process at 8.30am and I hope to finish by 12 noon,” Chew said when met. -DayakDaily
