KUCHING, March 6: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is studying a proposal to solve the flash floods issue at Jalan Urat Mata here.

MBKS councillor Mok Chuang Ping explained that the proposal could be a big scale project to provide a long term solution for the flash flood problems at Jalan Urat Mata and Tabuan Jaya.

“We are still at the stage of researching because it could be a big scale project.

“It involves the relocation of underground electricity cables and utility wires.

“We are still looking at an effective approach that could reduce the flash floods there,” he said during a live streaming of MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng entitled ‘Shall Wee Talk’ today.

Mok was responding to a member of the public, Kho Liang Teck who complained that during heavy rains, Lorong Urat Mata 1 and roads at Tabuan Jaya will experience flash floods due to excessive rain water arising from shallow drains.

Kho also noted the drains at Lorong Urat Mata 1 and Tabuan Jaya needed to be upgraded.

In the meantime, Mok said there is a project to provide culvert drain to channel excessive rain waters at Lorong Urat Mata 1 and Lorong Urat Mata 3 to the drains located opposite the roads which then flow into Tabuan River.

Mok added he has personally gone to the ground thrice to understand and look into the flash flood situation there.

He pledges to continue to follow up on the flash flood problems at Jalan Urat Mata until a solution is found.

Among those who joined the live streaming were councillor Kho Teck Wan, councillor Bong Lian Huan and councillor Goh Tze Hui. — DayakDaily
