KUCHING, June 17: Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem has suggested to the Serian District Council (MDS) for a road or a structure to be named after the two communities to reflect the multi-racial composition of this district.

ā€œSince we already have two roads named after two prominent Bidayuh leaders namely former Serian MP the late Pengarah Rahun Debak and former Tebedu Assemblyman the late Datuk Michael Ben, and now we have a road named for the Chinese community.

ā€œSo, I would like to suggest to MDS to name a road for the Iban and also the Malay communities. This is important to reflect the multi-racial composition of the people of Serian,ā€ Riot said after unveiling Jalan Chung Hua here today.

Riot who is also Prime Ministerā€™s Special Envoy to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan pointed out that the naming of Jalan Chung Hua today was for the vast contributions of the Chinese community in Serian district especially in terms of its business development.

ā€œOur decision to name this road Chung Hua and not after any Chinese individuals is because Chung Hua represents the whole Chinese community in Serian district.

ā€œAnd also there is no one who is outstanding enough (from the Chinese community), who is prominent enough for the road to be named after that particular individual,ā€ he explained.

Present at the ceremony were Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, Serian Resident Tuah Suni, Serian District Officer Lim Hock Meng and SDC secretary Constantine Jonas and Serian Bidayuh Temenggong Henry Bujang Sadok.ā€”DayakDaily.
