SIBU, Oct 12: The body of a naked man in a decomposed state was found floating in Igan River by a fisherman at 1.30pm yesterday.

Sibu district deputy police chief Supt Collin Babat said he led a police team to the location after receiving a report lodged by the fisherman.

“When we arrived at the location, we found the body floating near the Territorial Army Camp at Jalan Kampung Nangka. We believe the corpse of the man who was in a supine position without clothes was that of a local person,” he said.

He added that there were no signs of external injuries on the body.

“We also did not find any personal documents such as an identity card on the body so we have to name him as Mr X for the time being, “he said.

The body has been sent to the Sibu Hospital forensics unit and the case has been temporarily classified as sudden death until an autopsy report is completed.

“So far we have not received any report on the disappearance of any person or from family members of the deceased. We are now trying to locate his family members. Those who have information about the incident are asked to come forward to provide us with information by calling the Sungai Merah police station at 084-217901 or the nearest police station,” Collin said. — DayakDaily
