KUCHING, Dec 20: The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) has ordered for the activation of state and district-level Disaster Management Committees in response to an alert-level continuous rain warning across multiple areas, particularly in Peninsula Malaysia.

The warning, issued by Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) at midnight, prompted Nadma to release a disaster preparedness advisory via its official social media last night (Dec 19).

In the advisory, Nadma has urged the respective Disaster Management Committees (DMCs) to elevate their preparedness to effectively address potential disasters, especially in high-risk areas.

It is essential for the DMCs to ensure that each temporary evacuation centre (PPS) is adequately equipped with basic necessities.

Additionally, they must ensure that the Disaster Site Control Post (PKTK) possesses ample operational assets, is in good condition, and ready for immediate use.

NADMA has provided assurance that the agency, through the National Disaster Control Centre (NDCC), will consistently monitor the situation and technical information parameters in collaboration with various technical agencies.

MetMalaysia’s forecast indicates the likelihood of thunderstorms in several areas in Sarawak, including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang in the late afternoon on December 2today (Dec 20).
