KUCHING, Oct 22: The police announced yesterday (Oct 21) that Datuk Allan Goh Hwan Hua, co-founder of low-cost carrier MYAirline Sdn Bhd (MYAirline), will remain in detention for an additional two days to aid in ongoing investigations.
The 57-year-old Goh’s remand has been extended for yesterday (Oct 21) and today (Oct 22), according to Bukit Aman Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, while Goh’s wife (Neow Ean Lee, 55) and son (Goh Tze Han, 26) have been released, MalayMail reported.
On Oct 17, the police arrested Goh, his wife, and their son at their home in Shah Alam, Selangor. On Oct 18, the police obtained a four-day remand to assist in ongoing investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA) 2001.
“Investigations are ongoing, and the CCID has identified several more individuals who can provide evidence to help in the investigation of the case. It is better if they step forward to provide cooperation to avoid any complications.
“Besides that, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is also in the process of freezing more than 15 accounts related to individuals related to this case,” Ramli said in a brief statement to the media, as quoted by MalayMail.
On Oct 12, at 5.30am, MYAirline suddenly announced the suspension of its operations due to financial difficulties. This unexpected decision left thousands of passengers stranded.
MYAirline stated on Oct 16 that the suspension of operations was due to a lack of a contingency plan and a last-minute investor pullout and that passenger refunds could reach an estimated RM22 million and would begin once the airline secures new investors.
On Oct 12, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that MYAirline had provided information indicating that approximately 125,000 passengers have been affected based on ticket sales until March of next year. — DayakDaily
