KUCHING, July 21: ‘My support for the Premier is unwavering’—these were the words said by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan in response to speculations that there is a power struggle in Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) between him and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to TVS, Awang Tengah said he is not a leader who hides behind sweet words, but rather one who upholds the principles of transparency and honesty.

“I have stated clearly and firmly at the (PBB) convention that my support for the Premier, who is also the president of the party, is unwavering.

“I am not the type of person who pretends. I speak plainly, and that is my principle. The culture of factionalism is not part of PBB, let alone attempts to bring each other down,” he said.

He said this after chairing the PBB Bukit Sari Branch Supreme Committee Meeting at a hotel in Lawas on Saturday (July 19).

He added that any external attempts to weaken PBB and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition will not succeed, as the party always prioritises teamwork, unity, and the interests of the people and Sarawak.

Awang Tengah cited the possibility of jealousy over GPS’s success in elevating Sarawak’s status and rights at the national level.

Therefore, he called on Sarawakians not to be deceived by any malicious provocations aimed at disrupting the unity and stability of the region, especially in the context of strong and united political leadership.

He called on all citizens to continue giving their full support to the leadership of GPS and to reject all forms of incitement that could disrupt the harmony and progress of the region.

“What’s important is that we continue to stand firmly behind the Premier’s leadership. Unity and stability within GPS must continue to be strengthened for the prosperity and well-being of the people of Sarawak,” he said.

On July 17, PBB Information Chief Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah dismissed claims of a power struggle between Abang Johari and Awang Tengah, stating that such talk is unfounded and does not reflect the reality within PBB.

This was followed by Abang Johari’s say on the matter on July 19, who hit back at online attempts to fabricate conflict between him and Awang Tengah, blaming jealousy over Sarawak’s rising economic success. — DayakDaily
