KUCHING, Feb 12: The uncontested leadership posts in the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s wing were the result of strong mutual understanding and inclusivity within the party, said its chief Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

She emphasised that discussions and negotiations before nomination day resulted in all positions, from the Women chief to the committee members (AJK), being filled without contest.

“For me, this is an achievement. It promises something positive for the future of our PBB Women’s wing.

“It all started with a strong mutual understanding achieved through discussions and negotiations, and Alhamdulillah, this consensus was reached, providing us with a solid foundation to carry out our duties and responsibilities as the backbone of PBB,” she said during an interview at Baitul Makmur II today, ahead of the 16th PBB Convention.

Fatimah also highlighted the presence of new faces in the Women’s wing, describing it as a sign of progress and development within the movement.

She shared that in her own Dalat constituency, the branch’s deputy Women chief is a young leader who previously led the youth wing before advancing to her current role.

“Similarly, in several branches, long-serving Women chiefs have stepped aside due to age or health factors, allowing new leaders to take over.

“This has resulted in a good mixture of experience and fresh perspectives,” she added.

She noted that this blend of senior and younger leaders is present at all levels, from grassroots branches to the State-level Women’s wing, ensuring a balanced and dynamic leadership structure.

Fatimah further stressed the importance of mentorship within the movement to cultivate quality leaders.

“We want to ensure that we have quality leaders within the Women’s wing. That is why mentorship is crucial, from the branch level to the State level. Experienced senior leaders still have an essential role in guiding the younger generation,” she emphasised.

Afterwards, Fatimah revealed that despite there being no contest, the PBB Women’s wing will propose six additional names from the Women’s Supreme Council for appointment to the PBB Supreme Council.

This is separate from the automatic appointment of a women leader as the party’s vice president and women who secure positions in the PBB Supreme Council through election victories.

This aligns with the latest amendment to Article 14 of PBB’s constitution, which allows for up to 32 appointed members.

This includes five representatives each from the Youth and Women’s wings, as well as two from the Belia 1828 wing, all of whom are appointed by the PBB president with the approval of the Supreme Council. – DayakDaily
