KUCHING, Dec 25: Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang said in Islam, Muslims are taught to treat Christians the same.
Quoting a passage from the Covenant of the Prophet Muhammad with the Christians of Najran, he said this happened during the time of the Prophet.
“Muslims must not abandon the Christians, neglect them, and leave them without help and assistance since I have made this pact with them on behalf of Allah to ensure that whatever good befell Muslims it would befall them as well and that whatever harm befell Muslims would befall them as well.” (The Covenant of the Prophet Muhammad with the Christians of Najran).
Idris said Prophet Muhammad had made Christians and Muslims brothers, with whom the Muslims share the same fate.
“Let us continue this spirit of goodwill as taught by Prophet Muhammad, and let us build up the good relationship among people of different races and religions within Sarawak.
“We are different, and may this right way of treating our brothers and neighbours continue through celebrating all festive seasons together, as one people of Sarawak.
“Merry Christmas to all the people of Sarawak who are celebrating Christmas,” said Idris in a press statement today. — DayakDaily
