KUCHING, Feb 23: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has yet to receive an official invitation for a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the scope of cooperation between Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS).
Speaking to reporters after a function in Kuching today, Abang Johari said he first heard about the potential meeting through the news.
“I don’t know. I heard it from the news,” he said when asked about the matter.
When pressed on whether he had been formally approached, he responded in jest: “Mun nya nunggah, I datang” (If he calls, I will come).
While stating that the meeting is not urgent, the Premier emphasised the importance of strong collaboration between the Sarawak government and the federal administration.
“Not really (urgent), but at least there is good collaboration,” he added.
No further details were provided on the agenda or timeline for the meeting.
Last night (Feb 22), Bernama reported that Anwar had mentioned plans for the federal and Sarawak governments to discuss Petros and PETRONAS’ cooperation on any new projects in any field.
He stated that both parties have so far agreed to acknowledge all legal matters.
“I, together with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, will contact the Sarawak government, and if possible, we will call for a meeting to hear their proposals. I think the best solution will be achieved,” Anwar was quoted as saying. — DayakDaily
