Mukah firefighter dies from severe head injuries caused by road accident

MUKAH, Dec 3: A firefighter was killed in a road accident while on his way home after finishing his duties this morning.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu disclosed the accident occurred at the Bestari 1 roundabout in Mukah township at about 10.20am.

Initial investigations revealed that Jackery Tuksing, 48, from the Mukah fire station was riding in the direction away from the Mukah market when he entered the roundabout.


The driver of a vehicle which was traveling from the direction of Mukah Hospital entered the roundabout without realising Jackery was already in front, causing a collision on the left side of the road.

The impact threw Jackery to right side of the road while his motorcycle was dragged for some 26 metres under the car.

Upon receiving an emergency call from the public, his Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) colleagues immediately deployed to the scene.

However, despite their best efforts, Jackery died at Mukah Hospital due to severe head injuries.

Police have detained the 55-year-old vehicle driver for further investigation. — DayakDaily
