KUCHING, July 15: Mui Lee Enterprise Sdn Bhd and Persafe Engineering Sdn Bhd have partnered to introduce Sarawak’s first eco-friendly abrasive blasting technology from Australia, with the goal of enhancing industrial safety and advancing environmental sustainability across various industries.

The collaboration involves the adoption of Green Blasting Technology through the acquisition of an advanced abrasive blasting machine manufactured by Abrasive Blasting Service and Supplies Pty Ltd (ABSS) from Victoria, Australia.

The agreement between the two Sarawakian companies was formalised today with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the sidelines of the Borneo International Energy Week (IEW 2025) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The ABSS system, designed for high-production industrial use, represents best-in-class technology for safe and sustainable surface preparation. Engineered for enclosed, high-efficiency abrasive blasting operations, the system reduces material waste while protecting workers and the environment through advanced dust management and collection features.

In Sarawak, ABSS abrasive blasting equipment is distributed by Mui Lee Enterprise, a Miri-based provider of industrial safety and fire protection systems.

The MoU signing ceremony, which was witnessed by representatives from the Victorian Government Trade and Investment Southeast Asia office, alongside key players from Sarawak’s industrial, energy, and commercial sectors, underscores the international cooperation underpinning this initiative.

In his address, Mui Lee Enterprise director David Chiew affirmed the partnership’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and advancing Sarawak’s industrial sector through green technology.

“We have always believed in bringing global solutions to local industries. This green blasting technology responds to the growing demand for cleaner and more efficient operations, particularly in sectors like oil and gas.

“The system we are introducing goes beyond equipment, it delivers real impact by reducing waste, improving air quality, and creating safer workplaces. It sets a new benchmark for green and sustainable blasting and painting services in Sarawak,” he said.

Persafe Engineering Sdn Bhd managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Peru Balan Ding highlighted that the initiative replaces traditional abrasive methods with a cleaner alternative, reducing dust emissions, minimising hazardous waste, and protecting both workers and surrounding communities.

“This is an advanced solution that elevates safety standards, reduces environmental impact, and promotes clean operational practices.

“It is my earnest plea for industry players, especially in Bintulu, to support us by engaging our blasting and painting services. Together, we can redefine not only how industries operate but also how they contribute to a cleaner, safer, and more responsible future,” he said

Based in Bintulu, Persafe Engineering is known for its fabrication expertise and is prepared to develop the necessary facilities for blasting and painting services on its dedicated land area.

Both Mui Lee and Persafe Engineering reaffirmed their commitment to advancing green solutions in support of the Sarawak government’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda, contributing towards a greener and safer industrial landscape.

This project supports Sarawak’s broader ESG ambitions by localising green technology in alignment with national and state environmental policies. It also serves as a commercial and technological bridge between Sarawak and Australia, fostering regional cooperation in advancing clean industrial practices. — DayakDaily
