KUCHING, Aug 23: Deputy Sarawak Secretary Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel will be acting Sarawak Secretary effective Monday (Aug 25).
He confirmed the appointment when met today at the Business Writing Workshop organised by Pertubuhan Wartawan Bebas Kuching (Pewarta) held at a local hotel here, following speculation on the matter.
The current Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, who is AirBorneo chairman, is on leave.
Muhammad Abdullah attained a PhD in Finance at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in 2014 and is also a Harvard Business School (HBS) alumnus.
Prior to his appointment as Deputy Sarawak Secretary, he was a finance lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business at UNIMAS and subsequently appointed as Special Administrative Officer to the Sarawak Premier in charge of Project Strategy and Coordination.
He was then promoted to become the director of the Economic Planning Unit Sarawak from 2019 to 2022. He has also worked in the corporate sector in the mid-1990s.
In addition, he heads the Sarawak Biodiversity Council as its chairman for the 2024–2026 term and is a Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) commission member for the 2025-2028 term. — DayakDaily
