KUCHING, April 24: A cross-border music and cultural initiative, MUARA, will bring together creatives from Pontianak, Kuching and Sibu in a one-night showcase designed to strengthen regional artistic exchange through music, dialogue, and collaborative storytelling.
Presented under Breaking The Border by ZASS Puravida, the programme serves as a creative meeting point for Borneo’s artistic communities, connecting musicians, performers and cultural practitioners across borders through shared experiences and live activation.
The Kuching edition of MUARA will take place on April 29 at Star On Stage, running from 6pm to midnight.
The event will open with sharing and exchange sessions from 6pm to 8pm, featuring an open-format dialogue and podcast-style conversation between creatives from Pontianak and Sarawak. The session is aimed at discussing real-world experiences within the creative scene, challenges faced by independent artists, and opportunities for cross-border collaboration.
This will be followed by a live performance segment from 8.30pm to 12am, featuring Indonesian alternative pop band Syndrama alongside selected Sarawak-based collaborators in a curated showcase of musical fusion and shared storytelling.

Among the local acts involved are Steff Fleur, Viceroyz, WP.Shhh and Razali Sa’at, along with other invited creatives.
As part of the programme, MUARA will also feature a curated Bornean food experience, highlighting the role of food as a cultural bridge within the broader cross-border exchange.
Tickets are priced at RM50 for presale and RM60 at the door. Presale ticket holders will enjoy complimentary meals and drinks as part of the package, while free ice cream will also be available for all attendees throughout the event.
In addition, Syndrama merchandise will be available for purchase on-site, offering fans an opportunity to support the band directly during the showcase.
Breaking The Border, the campaign behind MUARA, is a creative initiative by ZASS Puravida that connects artists, musicians, chefs and cultural communities through collaborative projects and live activations across borders. It is envisioned to grow into multiple formats including cultural exchanges, content series and regional collaborations across Borneo and beyond.
Syndrama, meanwhile, represents a new wave of independent musicians from Pontianak, Indonesia, known for emotionally driven songwriting and a growing digital following, reflecting the rising potential of cross-border creative movements within the region.
Through MUARA, organisers hope to build stronger creative linkages between Borneo’s cities by creating shared spaces where music, culture and collaboration intersect in a single platform.
