KUCHING, Aug 27: Team “MTB Johor A” captured the Mayor’s Challenge Trophy at the Siol International Mountain Bike Challenge (SIMBC) 2023 held at MTB Track, Bukit Siol, Petra Jaya here today.
The cross-country team relay (XCR) event saw MTB Johor A’s final cyclist crossing the finish line to help the team clock a total time of 13:28 minutes.
The victory saw the team comprising Sheikh Muhammad Harith Sheikh Mohd Noh, Muhammad Zahin Wahhi, Mohd Zukri Tahir, and Ariana Evangelista bringing home a cash prize worth RM1,500, a trophy and gold medals.
In second place was “3 Nations” with a time of 13:35 minutes. They will bring home a RM1,000 cash prize while “Thai X Johor” bagged a RM800 cash prize after recording a total time of 13:50 minutes to secure the third place.
Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah presented the prizes to the winners in a ceremony held after the event.
The event also featured other competition categories, namely Cross-Country Olympic (XCO), Downhill Individual (DHI), Cross-Country Short Course (XCC), and Cross-Country Eliminator (XCE).

The event also saw Abdul Karim presenting a special prize in the form of a mountain bike to the youngest participant in SIMBC 2023—Muhammad Harraz Rudean Mohd Anasrudean, 12.
SIMBC 2023 which started on Aug 25 saw the participation of about 200 cyclists from 8 countries—Thailand, Brunei, the Philippines, India, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, and Malaysia.
Organised by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), the event was sanctioned by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), Malaysian National Cycling Federation and Sarawak Cycling Association (SCA), as well as sponsored by Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, Penview Hotel, Giant Bicycles, Leaves Food Industries Sdn Bhd and Barkath CoRo Manufacturing Sdn Bhd. — DayakDaily
