LIMBANG, March 4: The Malaysian Army seized 449 cartons of alcohol and other confiscated items, including two vans and a boat, with a total estimated value of RM310,654 in a major smuggling bust near the country’s northern border.
According to a statement, the operation, codenamed JAGAKAWAN, was conducted by the Seventh Battalion Border Regiment (7 RS) under the Ninth Infantry Brigade (9 Bgd) at Limbang Post in the early hours of this morning.
During the raid, ten individuals were arrested, comprising seven Malaysians and three undocumented Filipino immigrants (PATI), all suspected of involvement in the smuggling operation.
The seized items, including two vans valued at RM20,000 and a boat worth RM150,000, have been handed over to the police for further action.
The Malaysian Army reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening border security and preventing cross-border crimes, including smuggling and illegal immigration.
Commander of the 9th Brigade, Brigadier General Jafri Sulaiman, commended the 7 RS troops for their swift action in stopping the smuggling attempt, underscoring their dedication to protecting national sovereignty. — DayakDaily
