KUCHING, March 13: Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) will assist Sarawak in developing 10,000 technologists through collaboration with agencies such as Public Works Department (JKR), Association of Professional Technicians and Technologists (APTT), and Technology Association of Malaysia (TAM).
MBOT president Prof Datuk Dr Siti Hamsiah Tapsir said the board is committed to not only identifying and supporting graduates but also existing professionals who can benefit from further training and recognition.
The assistance includes facilitating relevant courses, mentoring progammes and identifying industry partnerships to ensure graduates are ready to work after completing their studies, according to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
Siti Hamsiah was reported as saying that MBOT has a role as a professional body to recognise talent in 24 specific fields and Sarawak is increasingly active in technology development with exposure to the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project which is the first to use hydrogen power in the region.
She commended Sarawak’s implementation of the ART project using hydrogen, stating that it was a “truly extraordinary” effort because it is development which only happens in Sarawak.
“We are here to offer our support in recognising and improving talent in Sarawak, ensuring they receive recognition and enhance their opportunities,” she said.
Siti Hamsiah said this when met by the media after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg at his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today. — DayakDaily
