KUCHING, Nov 7: Malaysia is planning to increase the value of palm oil exports to China for 2023 to more than RM14 billion.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, he will make a working visit to China to strengthen trade between the two countries, specifically concerning palm oil.

“The main mission of the visit is related to our commodity trade between China and Malaysia, especially palm oil, where China is a major importer of our palm oil,” he said when met in Kuching today.

Earlier, Fadillah had officiated at the 51st Annual Session and Meeting of The International Pepper Community and The International Spice Exhibition (51st IPC ASM ISE).

In addition to increasing palm oil exports, Fadillah added, the visit also aims to strengthen other areas of trade and relations with China.

What’s more, he said, next year is the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China relations.

“That (increase in palm oil exports) is (the reason for) our effort to visit there.

“And one of the announcements was a Memorandum of Understanding between Sime Darby and a Chinese company.

“Last year, the export value of palm oil was RM14 billion. There will be a fairly consistent increase; wait for the end of this year,” said Fadillah. — DayakDaily
