KUCHING, May 20: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has carried out a site closure at an ongoing private development project at Jalan Kwong Tiong due to earthworks activities conducted without the approval of engineering plans.
According to a press statement, this action constitutes a breach of Clause 8A of the Sarawak Building Ordinance 1996 and the requirement for prior planning approval.
“These unauthorised activities have caused inconvenience to nearby residents, particularly during the transportation of earth to the project site. Additionally, they have resulted in damage to the council’s roads,” it said.
Meanwhile, MPP chairman Tan Kai visited the site today during the enforcement operation.
“All road users, especially those operating heavy machinery, should be more responsible when using public roads and must comply with the law.
“The council has been receiving numerous complaints from residents. It is costly to keep repairing roads that are repeatedly damaged by heavy vehicles,” he said.
He added that companies must apply for a road permit and clearly indicate the travel route of heavy tonnage vehicles to ensure road damage is minimised, especially on small residential roads that are not intended for industrial use.
As of now, road access to the project site at Jalan Kwong Tiong has been officially blocked by the council. — DayakDaily
