KUCHING, Jan 11: Scavenging contractors have started to clear uncollected waste since Jan 10 and will continue to do so until Jan 12, says Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS).
Its chairman Datuk Peter Minos added that on Jan 13, contractors will start waste collection with new adjusted timings and schedules.
“The waste will be dumped at Mambong Landfill instead of Kampung Plaie Landfill in Samarahan as the latter was closed on Jan 1, 2023 by the order of Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), after reaching its full capacity,” said Minos in a statement today.
He said this announcement on waste collection overtakes the one made yesterday stating MPKS will start to clear all uncollected waste in Samarahan on January 16.
At the same time, he reiterated that the new adjusted timing and schedule will also take effect earlier on Jan 13 instead of Jan 16.
The warning against errant contractors also stands.
“The contractors must comply fully with the new arrangement. Failing to keep to terms of contracts will result in MPKS relooking and reviewing the procedures.
“MPKS is keeping a close eye on the issue as the residents’ interests is its top priority,” Minos warned. — DayakDaily
