KUCHING, Jan 27: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) will prepare roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) bins at selected venues in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration until Feb 3.

According to the council’s public health, environment and services standing committee chairman, Aziz Mohammad, this is to make it more convenient for the public to dispose of their waste.

The locations for the RoRo bins are:

  • Taman Samarindah (Bin Centre Flat Lorong 16)
  • Batu 9 (Bin Centre near UNACO)
  • Taman APT (Lorong APT 1)
  • Market Bandar Riyal (Pusat Hijfau)
  • Taman UniCentral
  • Taman Desa Ilmu (Parking Lot Uptown)
  • Pasar Asajaya (Tapak tong market)

He also advised residents to bring their own bulk waste to the RoRo bins and reminded them not to throw tyres into it as well, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

At the same time, the council encouraged residents to consider recycling methods for items that can be sold such as paper, aluminium, and electronic goods as MPKS also conducts a buy-back programme for recycled goods every Saturday at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, infrastructure, building control, and landscape standing committee chairman Dato Sim Kiang Chiok said that MPKS is committed to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and beauty of Kota Samarahan’s communal areas.

During a press conference at the MPKS meeting room today, he said that efforts such as cleaning drains and cutting grass continued to be enhanced, despite facing challenges such as obstruction structures and rubbish in residential areas’ drainage.

“Residents are advised to clean the front and back areas of their houses and not throw rubbish into drains or by the roadside or open areas.

“In addition, residents also need to comply with MPKS guidelines including not planting plants in public areas and opening structures that are not permitted to facilitate the maintenance process,” he said. — DayakDaily
