MPKS partners with 10 supermarkets in giving away food aid from July 4 to 12

KOTA SAMARAHAN, July 4: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is working with 10 supermarkets in this area to give away food aid to those in need.

The supermarkets involved are LePaPa Hypermarket, Farley Supermarket, Sen Sen Department Store, H&L Supermarket, Aiman ​​Mall, Emart Summer Mall, Unaco Supermarket, CS Mini Market (starting July 5), Elli Supermarket (July 4 to 6 only) and Choice Supermarket (soon to be announced).

The Community Pantry programme is expected to benefit over 2,000 households from July 4 to 12.

MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the programme was conducted because they understood the plight of the community who are affected by the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

“MPKS and the various supermarkets, we want to do our best to assist the community. Therefore, we wish to encourage the people to come forward to any of the locations at 3pm everyday so that they can benefit from this aid.

“Over 300 food packs will be distributed daily throughout the programme,” he told reporters after distributing the food aid at the LePaPa Hypermarket here today.

He also advised the community in need in Samarahan to approach the Council should they need further assistance.

“We must offer help to those who are already too desperate and struggling with their livelihood. We also do not want to have suicide cases,” he added.

At the same time, MPKS councillor Dato Sim Kiang Chiok, who is also the Community Pantry organising chairman, said ordinary folks who want to participate in the programme can do so by buying food from the supermarkets involved and donate them at the same venues.

A total of 100 food packs in the form of basic food items such as bread, noodles, vegetables, biscuits and drinks were distributed at the LePaPa Hypermarket today.

Earlier, 120 similar food packs were also distributed at H&L Supermarket Aiman Mall in Kota Samarahan today.

Also present was LePaPa Group store manager Bong Teck Pyng.
