Sarawak records 365 new Covid-19 cases, Kuching, Sibu, Tatau, Saratok, Meradong top five contributors

KUCHING, July 4: Kuching, Sibu, Tatau, Saratok and Meradong have contributed 218 or 59.73 per cent of total 365 Covid-19 cases in Sarawak today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said by district, Kuching recorded the highest number with 63 cases, followed by Sibu (54), Tatau (42), Saratok (31) and Meradong (28).


Of the remaining cases, districts which saw double-digit increases in infections included Telang Usan (24), Kanowit (19), Miri (18), Bintulu (14) and Serian (10).

The rest were Kapit (8), Sri Aman (7), Bau (7), Samarahan (7), Mukah (6), Subis (5), Betong (4), Pakan (3), Julau (2), Sarikei (2), Simunjan (2), Kabong (1), Tanjung Manis (1), Marudi (1), Tebedu (1), Bukit Mabong (1), Selangau (1), Lundu (1) Sebauh (1) and Song (1).

With this, SDMC said, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the whole of Sarawak now stands at 66,561.

“Out of the 365 patients today, 165 were detected following close contact screenings where two of them were symptomatic.

“Another 135 cases were via individual screenings from active clusters where none showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, there were 34 cases that were via other screenings at health facilities, and 31 cases from symptomatic screenings in health facilities,” it said in its daily Covid-19 update today.

Meanwhile, the committee also reported one new death from Covid-19 today, bringing Sarawak’s overall death toll to 419.

Fatality number 419 was a 59-year-old female from Kanowit who had hypertension and dyslipidemia.

As of today, Sarawak has 27 Covid-19 red zones, two orange zones, 10 yellow zones and one green zone. Daro remains the sole green zone in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
