KOTA SAMARAHAN, Oct 6: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is stepping up monitoring to curb alleged illegal dumping at a private property here, with an access route to be closed and warning signs installed to deter further dumping.

Following complaints over illegal dumping at the site, MPKS and the Samarahan Divisional Health Office conducted a joint inspection with the landowner, who agreed to implement the measures.

“Following the visit and discussions, the landowner agreed to take several measures to address the issue, including closing off the access road leading to the area, installing warning signs prohibiting illegal dumping, and carrying out cleaning and waste removal works at the site,” it said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 6).

The council said it would conduct regular monitoring to ensure the agreed measures are carried out within the stipulated timeframe.

MPKS also urged the public to refrain from illegal dumping or disposing of rubbish at unauthorised locations, as such practices could pose risks to public health and the environment.

The council emphasised that everyone has a role to play in curbing illegal dumping and keeping areas under its administration clean.

Also present during the site visit were MPKS Deputy Municipal Chairman Cr Daily anak Joseph, Permanent Committee Chairman for Public Health and Environment Cr Aziz bin Mohamad, other councillors and MPKS officers. — DayakDaily
