KUCHING, March 30: After a decade’s worth of service with the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), its chairman Dato Peter Minos has been asked to help Serian become the ‘mini New Zealand’ of Sarawak.
In a press statement, Minos described it as a challenge he has wholeheartedly accepted.
“I had done my bit at Samarahan, and I look forward to serving Serian. I was told to help Serian become a municipality, as I did for Samarahan in 2016. It’s not easy, but it can be done,” he said.
He said he was also asked to look into a new council headquarters for Serian, as the existing one is too old and congested.
In addition, he said he would see how to work on tourism in the area as a follow-up to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s wish to turn Serian into a ‘mini New Zealand’.
“Serian is known as a Bidayuh-majority area, and I’ll see how to upgrade and improve things there, being a Bidayuh myself, together with other agencies and my staff,” he said. — DayakDaily
