MPKS chairman: Completion of road expansion and traffic light construction in Kota Samarahan would ease traffic nightmares

Dato Peter Minos

KUCHING, Sept 13: Traffic nightmare in Kota Samarahan will be history upon the completion of expansion works along Jalan Mohd Musa and construction of traffic light in Kota Samarahan roundabout.

According to Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos, with the help from the Public Works Department (JKR), the expansion work and the construction of traffic light has resumed recently.

Expansion work resumes at Jalan Mohd Musa in Kota Samarahan.

“If not for Covid-19 and the work closures, the roundabout traffic lights will be done and ready by February next year. Now a postponement is unavoidable, maybe to late 2022.

“If completed, the traffic lights will help in easing the daily serious and heavy traffic jams in Kota Samarahan,” said Minos in a statement today.

He also pointed out that with the coming Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) to Kota Samarahan, the massive traffic jams will also be a history.

However, he said development projects all over Sarawak are either delayed or postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This is very tough for the government, including the contractors and people who need these projects done and completed in time. It is one of those things that we have to bear and cooped up with during the terrible Covid-19 time,” he added. – DayakDaily
