KUCHING, Sept 18: A plan is underway to hold a kayaking event along Sungai Simbuh, which passes through Kampung Simbuh, Kampung Sikog, Kampung Mambong, Kampung Rabak Asah and Kampung Bratan in Puncak Borneo.
In making the suggestion, Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin said the primary objectives of having such an event is to help clean up the river and promote eco-tourism in the area.
According to him, the river is quite polluted due factory activities in the area and needs to be protected and preserved for future generations.
“As for Sungai Simbuh, planning is underway to have kayaking because we are aware that the river is polluted.
“By having such activity, which we hope to have it soon, not only will we help to clean the river, but at the same time help the area become a platform to promote eco-tourism,” Willie told reporters yesterday at a cheque presentation to Persatuan Kaum Bisitang Kuching (PKBK) at his service centre, along Jalan Borneo Heights.
The cheque was for the association to hold the Entrepreneur Carnival from Oct 27 to 29.
Willie said as the local elected representative for the area, he feels obliged to organise such events to help with the cleaning up of the river and preserve the eco-system. — DayakDaily
