Motorcyclist killed after losing control, crashing into lorry at Jalan Pending

KUCHING, May 8: A motorcyclist in his 30s was killed in a tragic road accident yesterday (May 7) afternoon after colliding with a lorry along Jalan Pending.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 12.37pm and involved a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle and a Hino lorry.

Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that the accident happened when the motorcyclist, travelling from the direction of the Jalan Pelabuhan traffic light towards Jalan Datuk Marican Salleh, lost control of his vehicle and veered into the opposite lane.

“He crashed into an oncoming lorry driven by a local man, also in his 30s, who was heading straight at the time of the incident,” he said in a statement today.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Sarawak General Hospital.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

Police are urging anyone with information related to the accident to contact Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Mohd Rashdan Rosli at 013-6204758 or 082-259900, or to visit the nearest police station.

In his reminder to the public, Alexson advised all road users to stay focused, drive carefully, and obey traffic laws at all times to avoid such tragedies.
